10 Most Expensive Cities in the World :

Me and my friends got into the debate of which country would be the most expensive city to live in. Most thought Paris to be the most expensive city. So I decided to do a little research and make it easier for you guys if you are ever end up in the same debate. The list talks about ten cities in the world that are the most expensive to live in. All these cities have good enough reason to be one of the most expensive. I took the liberty of informing you a little about the dynamics of each city. Enjoy the read!!!

10. FRANKFURT, GERMANY

Frankfurt am Main is the largest city in the state of Hesse. It is also the fifth-largest city in all of Germany with an estimated population of 695,624. Frankfurt is the largest financial center in continental Europe. The city is an international center for finance, culture, transport, education and tourism and is considered an alpha world city. I recently had the opportunity to visit Frankfurt for a period of three months and I have to say that the place is an absolute delight to live in. It ranks on the seventh number when it comes to the quality of living in the entire world

9. SINGAPORE

Singapore - Ten Most Expensive Cities in the World
This is an Island country made up of 63 different islands. The population of this country is around 5.2 million people but only 3.3 million are actually native to Singapore. The actual name of the city is Singapura which means Lion City. The earliest people to live in the area date back to around second century AD. The country is host to many religions but it is primarily a Buddhist country with around 33% of the population of the same faith. It is a beautiful place to live in with many tourist attractions that we will be covering later for your convenience.

8. MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

Melbourne is the capital city of the state of Victoria and takes the second spot when it comes to total population in Australia. The city was founded in 1835 and is referred to as the cultural capital of Australia. It has been ranked as the World’s Most Liveable City. Melbourne is home to the World’s Largest Tram Network. If you are into cricket, you must know that Melbourne Cricket Ground which happens to be very famous. The city is spread on an area of 8,806 square kilometers and has a population of 4,137,432.

7. SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Sydney - Ten Most Expensive Cities in the World
Sydney is the most populated city in all of Australia with a population of 4,627,345 and is spread on an area of 12,144.6 square kilometers. The city was established on 26th January 1788. It was the first British Colony in the world. The city has been a host to many different sporting events such as 1938 British Empire Games and the 2000 Summer Olympics. Sydney airport is the main airport to serve the city. You must have heard of the famous Sydney Opera House, needless to say, it is built in this very city. We will be covering the tourist destinations in Sydney as well so stay tuned.

Yes folks, Paris is no longer the most expensive city to live in. It is the capital and the largest city of France. Paris has an estimated population of 2,234,105 and is spread across an area of 105.4 square kilometers. It is one of the world’s leading cultural and business centres and is most popular for fashion and romance. Many major headquarters are located in this city and is one of the most greenest and liveable cities in all of Europe. 5. OSLO, NORWAY
Oslo - Ten Most Expensive Cities in the World
Oslo is the capital city of Norway and is also the most populated city of the country. The city was established in the year 1048 and is spread over an area of 454.03 square kilometers. The total estimated population is around 613,285. It is the economic and governmental centre of the country. It is considered as a Beta World City. If you consider the European way of living, it is considered as the most liveable city. It was the world’s most expensive city in the year 2009 however, that has changed now.

4. OSAKA, JAPAN

The city spreads over an area of 223 square kilometers and is home to a population of around 2,871,680 people. Sakura tree and Pansy flower are the symbols of the city. It is the historical commercial Centre of Japan and is a major contribution to Japan’s economy. The city is situated in the Kansai region of the main island of Honshu. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the biggest in the Keihanshin area. Keihanshin area is composed of three cities of Japan namely; Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe.

Geneva is the second most populated city of Switzerland right after Zurich (discussed below). The city is spread over an area of 15.93 square kilometers with a population of around 191,803 people in the year 2011. The name of the city is said to be of Celtic origin. It is the worldwide Centre of diplomacy and a financial Centre for the country. Many agencies of United Nations and Red Cross are headquartered in Geneva and many watchmaking companies are headquartered here as well. Switzerland is famous for watches.

Tokyo is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan and the capital city. It is the world’s largest metropolitan area of the world. Tokyo ranked as the most expensive city to live in in the year 2011. It has been described as one of the three command Centres of the world economy. The other two are New York City and London. It is considered to be an Alpha World City. It was the third-most liveable city in the year 2009. They hosted 1964 Summer Olympics and is one of the candidates for 2020 Summer Olympics. The city has a population of around 13,185,502 people spread over an area of 2,187.66 square kilometers.

The most expensive city to live in is Zurich. It is the largest city of Switzerland and also the city with the most population. The population of 376,008 is spread over an area of 87.88 square kilometers. Zurich has been permanently settled for nearly 7,000 years now and its history dates back to Romans around 15 BC who called it Turicum. It happens to be one of the world’s largest financial Centres. There are many museums and galleries in the city including Swiss National Museum and Kunsthaus.
